ArtVenture CamperART COLONY CAMP

Join the Museum’s new Art Colony Camps and spend five days exploring the art & history of the Lyme Art Colony in your own colony of young artists. Geared for students going into grades 1-6, art colony campers will work together and with great leaders to investigate all the Museum has to offer including art exhibitions, painting outdoors, working with visiting artists, playing historic games, and more. The week's endeavors are championed in a final Art Show to which the families of the campers are invited. Art Colony Camps include a free t-shirt, all art-making materials, daily snacks, and more.

Scholarships for residents of New London for the ArtVenture camps have been generously provided through the Frank Loomis Palmer Fund of New London.

Featured guest artists-in-residence have included: Flock Theatre, puppetry; Brad Guarino, visual artist; and Peter Hawes, precussionist.

Little Pictures & Big Ears

Offered during select months

Geared for preschool-aged children and their caregivers, these monthly programs provide exposure to the Museum galleries in a fun and age-appropriate manner. Each month, a Star Reader of the Day selects a variety of children's books to be read in the gallery. The selections are often based on the art on view or the seasons of the year. After the reading, the participants move to the Hartman Education Center for a hands-on art project that connects directly to the main story of the day. Books recently featured at Little Pictures include Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh using watercolors to create creative and colorful clothespin butterflies.
