Featuring Two Guided Experiences!

Tuesday, December 7th, 7:30am-7pm
Trip Fee: $100 (members $90); refund date: November 23

Join friends and other Museum members for an extraordinary study day at the
newly expanded Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The centerpiece of this historic
expansion is a spectacular new wing for the Art of the Americas collection, that
doubles the number of collection objects on view, and features several large-scale
masterpieces not displayed for decades. The MFA’s new wing takes a global
perspective, showcasing more than 5,000 works of art produced in North,
Central, and South America over the course of three millennia.
Our visit will begin with a guided tour, Highlights of the Arts of Americas, that
will showcase art from the prehistoric era to the present. This tour will provide an introduction to the four levels of new exhibition space that includes 53 galleries, including nine beautiful period rooms, and four behind-the-scenes installations.
One such gallery showcases rotating exhibitions of Colonial embroidery, including samplers, needlework pictures, and domestic textiles, similar objects to those featured in the Florence Griswold Museum’s concurrent exhibition With Needle and Brush: Schoolgirl Embroidery of the Connecticut River Valley. These new spaces will also be available for self-guiding after the tour. Lunch at the MFA is on your own at one of three dining options. Bravo features progressive American cuisine marked with an emphasis on seasonal inspired, local ingredients -- reservations are recommended at (617) 369-3474.

The Galleria features light, contemporary cuisine featuring freshly made soups, signature salads, and decadent desserts. Courtyard Cafe provides gourmet coffee, biscotti, and specialty panini.

Our afternoon will feature another guided tour, Introduction to the Museum
Collections which will include masterworks from around the world including
the MFA’s terrific collection of French Impressionism. Throughout the day their
will be pockets of “free” time for participants to wander the treasure trove that is
the MFA at their own pace. A perfect day to study and enjoy the art!
